An early-morning shooting on San Antonio’s northeast side left a young man dead on Wednesday, turning a weekday routine into a crime scene along a stretch of Goldfield Drive that neighbors know all too well. Police say the victim, believed to be in his late teens or early 20s, was found fatally shot in the 4800 block of Goldfield Drive near Rittiman Road just after 7 a.m. Officers and medics responded to the area after a call came in around 6:50 a.m., and first responders pronounced him dead at the scene. Authorities said the suspect had already taken off, and detectives immediately began canvassing the neighborhood as residents watched from their porches and driveways, as reported by KENS5.
According to KENS5, detectives say they are getting conflicting stories from witnesses and believe multiple people may have been involved. Investigators also believe the shooter fled the scene and are seeking a search warrant as part of the ongoing probe. Officers spent Wednesday interviewing neighbors and working to piece together what led up to the gunfire.
Block Near Rittiman Has Seen Previous Violent Incidents
The same stretch of Goldfield Drive has a grim history that longtime residents have not forgotten. In 2018, a woman was shot and killed at an apartment complex in the 4800 block of Goldfield, as reported by KSAT. The San Antonio Express‑News has also documented other shootings and attempted robberies in the same block over the years. Neighbors say that history has left some of them on edge and has kept the area on law enforcement’s radar.
Investigators Ask For Witnesses To Come Forward
Detectives told KENS5 that no arrests have been made and the investigation remains active. Authorities are urging anyone with video or information about the shooting to contact the San Antonio Police Department so detectives can chase down new leads. The victim’s name has not yet been released, pending notification of his family.
