A Monday night crash at an Aiea Heights intersection left a 12-year-old boy in serious condition, after he was struck by a car and rushed to the hospital, according to emergency responders.
Paramedics were called to the intersection of Aiea Heights Drive and Ulune Street around 5:40 p.m. Monday. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said crews provided advanced life support at the scene before taking the child to an emergency room for further treatment. Officials have not released the boy’s name or said what may have led to the collision.
As reported by Hawaii News Now, Honolulu EMS did not provide information about the driver or indicate whether any charges might be filed.
Where the Crash Happened
The collision occurred at the junction of Aiea Heights Drive and Ulune Street, in the Aiea Heights neighborhood. The broader Aiea area has seen other serious and fatal motor-vehicle collisions in recent years, and the Honolulu Police Department keeps public postings on critical crashes and related investigations. For examples of past incidents, see the Honolulu Police Department.
Statewide Safety Push
The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation has rolled out several safety initiatives following a spike in road deaths last year, including the Safe Roads Challenge and targeted enforcement operations. In an early-2026 update, the department said preliminary fatality counts appeared improved compared with 2025 but stressed that drivers, pedestrians and cyclists need to stay vigilant.
HDOT has also pointed to upcoming infrastructure countermeasures and pending legislation that focus on speeding, impaired driving and pedestrian safety. Officials say a combination of engineering, enforcement and education remains key to cutting down on serious crashes across the state.
