A quiet trip to urgent care in Pacific Beach turned into a crime scene yesterday when a man allegedly struck a woman with a metal bat outside a medical clinic, then took off as police swarmed the area.
San Diego police say the attack happened near Fanuel Street outside an urgent-care clinic. The woman, in her 50s, was treated at the scene by clinic staff and then taken to a hospital. Police later said the victim had been located and that investigators remained in the neighborhood searching for the suspect.
Officers say the assault occurred outside Marque Urgent Care on Fanuel Street at about 5:43 PM. The suspect was described as a white man between 30 and 40 years old, about 5-foot-8 with a thin build, a scraggly beard and tattoos covering both arms. A police helicopter assisted officers as they searched the surrounding streets, and clinic staff reportedly jumped in to help the victim before she was transported to the hospital, as reported by FOX 5 San Diego.
Suspect Description and Search Efforts
Investigators are asking neighbors and drivers in the Fanuel Street area to check doorbell and dash cameras for any footage from Thursday evening that might show the suspect. Officers say they canvassed nearby businesses and remained in the area as they followed up on leads, hoping someone caught a clear look at the man matching the police description.
Anyone who believes they saw a man fitting that description or noticed unusual activity around the time of the attack is urged to contact police. Even brief or blurry clips, officers say, could help them piece together the suspect's movements before or after the assault.
Where the Attack Happened
The incident took place near the Marque Urgent Care clinic on Fanuel Street, a small commercial strip along Sail Bay. Marque's Pacific Beach location lists its address as 4490 Fanuel St., which matches the clinic named in police accounts, per Marque Urgent Care.
How to Help
Police are asking anyone with information to call the San Diego Police Department non-emergency line at 619-531-2000 or to contact Crime Stoppers with anonymous tips. Investigators say surveillance or dashcam video from the Fanuel Street area around 5:43 p.m. Thursday could be particularly useful.
Residents and business owners can also report sightings or upload information directly to the San Diego Police Department.
No arrests have been announced, and investigators continue to canvass the neighborhood. Authorities say anyone who thinks they saw the suspect or has relevant footage should reach out so detectives can follow up.
