An 83-year-old woman was hospitalized after she was shoved during a confrontation aboard a B25 MTA bus in Bedford-Stuy on Tuesday, in what should have been a routine late-morning ride. The bus was stopped at Franklin Avenue and Fulton Street when the suspect walked up and began arguing with the rider, police say. The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to a downtown Brooklyn hospital.
Police release description and seek tips
According to News 12 Brooklyn, police say the suspect approached the 83-year-old just before 10 a.m., started an argument, then shoved her in the face before running westbound on Fulton Street. Authorities describe the suspect as wearing a brown coat, a black hat and red gloves. The NYPD Crime Stoppers program is asking anyone with information to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
Victim treated at Brooklyn Hospital Center
EMS transported the woman to The Brooklyn Hospital Center for evaluation, where officials say she was treated for minor injuries. The hospital lists its downtown campus at 121 DeKalb Avenue and serves as a major emergency center for Brooklyn neighborhoods.
Transit safety and local pattern
The episode is the latest to raise concern about the safety of older riders on Brooklyn transit. A separate April subway robbery of an 84-year-old in Bedford-Stuy was covered by subway mugger hunted after attack, and News 12 Brooklyn reported a 66-year-old was assaulted while waiting for a bus in Flatlands earlier this month. Riders and community groups have urged anyone with video or photos from the area to share them with detectives.
Anyone with information about the B25 incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers or to contact the NYPD’s Transit or local precinct detectives. Tips that lead to arrests may be eligible for rewards.
