The counter-service spot at Agritopia had earned a loyal following for its oven-fired flatbreads, slow-fermented loaves, and a lineup of easygoing sandwiches and pizzas. For many East Valley regulars, its mix of bakery, market, and wine by the glass felt like a rarity that anchored their dining routine.
Farewell note and final service
In an Instagram post announcing the closure, the team wrote that it had been “proud to be part of the Gilbert community,” language also relayed by Phoenix New Times. According to that report, Source served its last meals on April 25, and chef Urciuoli opened the restaurant with business partner Akshat Sethi in December 2022. The same coverage noted that the menu topped out at about $15, with glasses of wine, beer, and cider priced at $9 or less. Phoenix New Times reported it had reached out to Urciuoli for comment.
Chef honors and quiet confirmation
Urciuoli was named a James Beard Awards semifinalist in 2024 for Best Chef: Southwest, a recognition listed by the James Beard Foundation. On Source’s website, a banner now bluntly reads “We are now closed,” alongside a note listing the Epicenter at Agritopia as the restaurant’s home. Diners and local reviewers had praised the kitchen’s attention to technique and ingredients, especially the breads and flatbreads that became its calling card. The hybrid setup, pairing a retail market with fast-casual service, helped Source stand out in Gilbert’s still-growing dining scene.
Community reaction and uncertain future
Once word got out, fans crowded the comments section with thanks and laments, calling the restaurant a “gem” and mourning the loss, as documented by Phoenix New Times. In its farewell note, the restaurant thanked customers for “becoming part of our extended family,” a sentiment that landed hard with regulars who had built weekend routines around a loaf, a flatbread, and a glass of wine.
