Lowcountry, the cozy Southtown cocktail bar tucked inside a two-story house with a sprawling backyard patio, is calling last call at the end of May. Cofounder Drew Morros broke the news on Instagram, signaling the end of a nearly nine-year run for a spot that quietly became one of the neighborhood’s go-to hangouts for house cocktails and laid-back DJ nights.
The closure announcement, first reported by CultureMap San Antonio, quoted Morros writing, “Big news, y'all. Lowcountry, my very favorite bar in the whole wide world, is closing down at the end of May.” His post paired a thank-you-filled slideshow of photos with the pointed line “Landlords gonna landlord,” a comment that coverage suggested might hint at a rental dispute.
A Southtown Staple Since 2016
Morros opened Lowcountry with Roberta Marques and bartender Danny Delgado in November 2016, and the bar quickly gained a following for inventive cocktails and a relaxed, Southern-parlor vibe, according to the San Antonio Current. The backyard patio became a regular stage for DJs and community nights, helping the place feel less like a typical downtown bar and more like a well-loved second living room.
Southtown’s Shrinking Nightlife
Lowcountry’s shutdown is part of a broader wave of changes sweeping Southtown’s food and drink scene, with CultureMap tracking a series of restaurant and bar closures across 2025 and into 2026. Some exits have been rocky: earlier this year, staff at Brick at Blue Star alleged unpaid wages, underscoring how fragile the math can be for small operators, as reported by the San Antonio Express-News.
Lowcountry is expected to keep pouring drinks through the end of May, giving regulars a little time to say goodbye and toast nearly a decade of late nights and backyard parties. For now, Morros’ Instagram farewell serves as the clearest public word on the closure and as a reminder of how much Southtown’s character has long depended on small, personality-driven bars like this one.
