Shoppers at the Mall at Fairfield Commons were rushed out Tuesday evening after a phoned-in bomb threat triggered a full evacuation and hours-long sweep of the complex, according to Beavercreek police. Bomb-detection teams and K-9 units combed the property while officers shut down nearby roads and urged people to steer clear. No suspicious devices turned up, and investigators say they are still working to track down who made the call.
The Beavercreek Police Department said on Facebook that a caller issued the bomb threat by phone, prompting officers to clear the shopping center so specialized teams could conduct a top-to-bottom search. Surrounding agencies sent four K-9 units to assist, and first responders managed traffic and access to the scene, as reported by the Springfield News-Sun. Police also asked the public to avoid the area until crews wrapped up their work.
Search, Response and All Clear
Beavercreek dispatchers say crews were sent around 8 p.m. to 2727 Fairfield Commons Blvd., where they coordinated the sweep of the mall and surrounding property. After the search, the department said there was "no credible threat to public safety," according to the Springfield News-Sun.
Mall Ownership and Local Context
The Mall at Fairfield Commons was purchased last year by a joint venture led by Spinoso Real Estate Group and Kize Capital as part of a planned reinvestment push for the property, the Dayton Daily News reported. The center has seen recent anchor and tenant activity, including a Dillard’s opening this spring, which has helped keep it among the region’s busier retail hubs.
What Shoppers Should Know
Police asked people to stay away from the mall while first responders were on scene and said the investigation into the threatening phone call remains active. Anyone who was at the mall and noticed suspicious activity is urged to contact the Beavercreek Police Department and to check the department’s official channels for updates before returning to the property.
