A New York–style bagel shop called Delight on Broadway is getting ready to fire up the ovens on South Broadway in downtown Salem, promising toasted‑then‑steamed bagel sandwiches and a slate of both classic and special‑diet options. Owner Greg Hoffman says he and his wife have been workshopping the idea for years and are aiming for a late‑May soft opening.
That opening timeline and early menu details were first reported locally on April 17 by WKBN, which notes the shop will feature gluten‑free and keto bagel choices and will lean on locally sourced ingredients. According to the report, Hoffman described the sandwiches as toasted, then steamed so the meat heats through and the cheese melts while the exterior stays crisp. Reporter Gabriella Winans filed the story and put the opening window at late May.
What The Menu Will Look Like
Hoffman told WKBN the goal is to bring an “authentic New York bagel experience” to the valley. “We’re excited to bring an authentic New York bagel experience to the valley,” he said, adding that the focus will be on steamed, toasted sandwich builds alongside classic New York–style bagels that should feel familiar to anyone who has stood in line at a city corner bagel spot.
Renovation Clears The Way On South Broadway
The future home of Delight on Broadway is getting a serious facelift. The storefront is being renovated by Stitle Construction as part of a broader push to fill long‑vacant downtown spaces. Stitle’s project manager told Business Journal Daily the building is more than a century old and that crews are updating the roof and exterior, with work expected to wrap up in roughly eight weeks.
Why It Matters For Downtown Salem
Local developers see Delight on Broadway as the kind of breakfast‑and‑lunch anchor that could juice morning foot traffic on Broadway and give nearby businesses a boost. “This is going to be called Delight on Broadway, a new café and bagel shop,” project manager Eric Stitle told Business Journal Daily, noting it will join recent projects like the Rumpled Queen and The OG on South Broadway.
Hoffman said the owners will share firm opening details as the date gets closer. For now, steady progress on the buildout and that fresh roof keep a late‑May opening on the table. If everything stays on track, downtown Salem is about to get a new morning hangout with a distinctly New York twist.
