Heated socks that were supposed to keep shoppers cozy have landed in the recall bin instead, after reports that they can literally burn your feet. More than 200,000 pairs of battery-powered 32 Degrees heated socks sold at Costco are being recalled, and customers are being urged to stop using them immediately and return them for a refund. According to 32 Degrees, the recall covers 207,806 pairs sold between August 2025 and March 2026. The hazard crops up when heat, friction, moisture and pressure combine during use, which can result in burns.

The recalled product is a black, battery-powered sock sold in Medium, Large and Extra Large sizes, and it comes with a rechargeable battery pack labeled “32 Degrees HEATHEAT.” The company says it is voluntarily pulling the socks in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and is telling customers to stop using them and return them to Costco for a full refund.

As reported by WSB-TV, the recall follows 14 incident reports tied to the socks, 13 of which involved first- or second-degree burns. The outlet notes the socks were sold at Costco for roughly $30 to $46.

How to tell if your socks are part of the recall

The recall page lists item numbers 1872150 (in-store) and 1913659, 1913660 and 1913661 (Costco.com) as the affected units. The 32 Degrees brand name appears on the battery pack casing, the user manual and the exterior retail packaging. If your pair matches those details, do not use the socks. The manufacturer asks customers to return all components, if available, to a Costco warehouse or through Costco’s online returns portal.

How refunds and returns work

As WSB-TV reports, Costco will process full refunds for members returning recalled pairs at any warehouse or via its online returns portal. If the socks were a gift, the purchaser should have received a notification from Costco, and recipients can still bring the product back to any warehouse for a refund.

If you were injured

If you experienced a burn or other injury from the socks, seek medical attention and, if possible, hang on to the product and its packaging. You can report injuries and unsafe products to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission through its SaferProducts.gov portal or by calling the agency’s consumer hotline at 800-638-2772 for guidance.

For additional information, 32 Degrees’ recall team can be reached Monday through Friday at 833-997-2452 or at [email protected]. Costco members can return the affected product at any warehouse, and both the brand and the retailer are clear on one point: do not keep using the socks while your refund is being processed.
