An argument over a bicycle in Capitol Hill erupted into gunfire Monday morning, and Seattle police say they arrested an armed felon at the scene. Officers detained a suspect while investigators worked to sort out what sparked the shooting.
According to the Seattle Police Department, which posted an early update on X, the arrest followed a shooting that broke out during a dispute about a bicycle. The department noted that the details are preliminary and could change as detectives continue processing the scene.
Police say the dispute escalated into gunfire
SPD's online blotter has recently documented other serious incidents in the neighborhood, including an April 12 weapons arrest in Capitol Hill and, earlier this year, a February 21 entry about a deadly shooting, both detailed on the SPD Blotter and the SPD Blotter. Those posts show detectives have been handling other Capitol Hill cases while they follow up on new leads.
What the law says
If the person arrested is a convicted felon found with a firearm, Washington law generally prohibits that kind of possession and it can lead to felony charges. RCW 9.41.040 outlines the firearm possession restrictions for people with certain convictions and the penalties that may apply.
Seattle police say the investigation remains active and that information is still preliminary, with more details expected as detectives learn more.
