A late Saturday two-alarm fire ripped through a third-floor room at the Super 8 motel on the 6300 block of Chef Menteur Highway, forcing about 30 people out of their rooms but causing no reported injuries. Fire crews contained the blaze to the single room where it started, and investigators said it was likely sparked by an electrical malfunction. The Red Cross was contacted to assist those who were displaced.
Firefighters Box Flames Into Single Motel Room
According to WDSU, New Orleans firefighters pulled up to heavy flames and smoke pouring from the front of the three-story motel and called a second alarm because of the strong possibility people were still inside. Crews confined the fire to the room where it started and then moved through the building to knock down lingering hotspots. WDSU reported that roughly 30 people were displaced and that the American Red Cross was contacted to provide shelter and assistance.
Chef Menteur Corridor Still Reeling From Recent Major Fires
The Chef Menteur corridor has already seen its share of big blazes. A New Orleans Fire Department release dated Sept. 3, 2025 described a five-alarm inferno at the Gentilly Ridge Apartments that displaced about 100 residents and triggered a large-scale emergency shelter effort. In that incident, the city worked with the Red Cross and partner agencies to provide temporary housing and support for everyone forced out of their homes.
What Comes Next For Super 8 Guests And The Property
Wyndham lists the Super 8 at 6322 Chef Menteur Highway, the general address cited by officials and local outlets while crews worked the scene. The motel's operating status and a full accounting of the damage were not immediately available as investigators continued their work in the room where the fire began. For people displaced by fires, the American Red Cross of Louisiana maintains regional resources and volunteer teams that can step in with short-term shelter and basic assistance.
