A Cincinnati man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after a jury found him guilty in the execution-style killing of a 25-year-old man who was shot while getting a haircut in an East Price Hill home in October 2024. The victim, identified as Joshua Sherman, was shot in the head as he sat in the chair.
Djaune Ferguson learned his fate Tuesday when a judge sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole following guilty verdicts on murder and aggravated murder charges, according to FOX19. The station reports the ruling effectively closes out the criminal case stemming from the October killing.
How the attack unfolded
Court records show the shooting took place inside a home on W. Eighth Street near Chateau Avenue. Prosecutors say Ferguson walked in and shot Sherman in the back of the head while he was in the middle of a haircut, as reported by WLWT. Police arrested Ferguson only hours later, and a judge initially set his bond at $2.5 million. Officials have not publicly offered any explanation for a motive.
Prior record and parole status
Records and reporting indicate Ferguson had been released from prison shortly before Sherman was killed and was serving a five-year parole term at the time, the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction told FOX19. County court documents cited by the station show he previously received a 15-year sentence in November 2009 for armed robbery connected to a Fifth Third Bank in Oakley and a restaurant in Silverton. Prosecutors pointed to that criminal history during the case, according to the filings and coverage.
Aftermath
The life-without-parole sentence removes any chance Ferguson will be released and will be served within the state prison system. For now, local reporting and court records provide the public trail of what happened in that West Side home and the legal fallout that followed Sherman’s killing.
