Valencia’s Carniceria & Taqueria in Citrus Heights is punching through to the vacant storefront next door at Sunrise MarketPlace, giving the family-run market and taquería a lot more breathing room and added indoor seating. Construction is already underway, and the Valencia family now expects the expanded dining area to open in June 2026.
Family-Run Staple Doubling Its Footprint
The operation started in Orangevale before becoming a Citrus Heights fixture in November 2001, after founders Don Gill and Maria Valencia immigrated from Michoacán. The family has kept the business a neighborhood draw for more than two decades, according to WhatNow.
Inside The Market And Taquería
Valencia’s combines a full-service carnicería, panadería and taquería under one roof. The website highlights tacos, burritos, tamales and other Mexican staples on the menu, while the market side stocks produce including papayas, mangos, plantains and limes. The meat counter features specialty and cut-to-order options, and the bakery turns out rows of pan dulce, as described on Valencia's.
Expansion Details And Timetable
The new space will take over the suite next door that formerly housed a Subway at Sunrise MarketPlace, where crews were spotted renovating the interior during a recent site visit. WhatNow reports the family had initially aimed for a spring opening but now anticipates the expanded dining room will debut in June 2026.
The expansion comes as several nearby projects and new apartments are expected to bring more activity along the Greenback–Sunrise corridor, a local shift the Valencia family hopes will mean more customers walking through the door. The Citrus Heights Sentinel has noted nearby development and other small business moves in the strip mall as construction continues, and Valencia’s says its market and taquería will remain open during the build-out. The Citrus Heights Sentinel also has details on hours and offerings while the work wraps up.
