A Largo man is facing serious charges after Pinellas Park police say a massage at Pure & Wellness Massage on April 9 turned into a sexual battery investigation. Officers say the suspect came in for an evening appointment, assaulted a worker during the session, then returned to the area hours later and wound up in handcuffs after crashing his car into a tree while they tried to stop him.
According to Tampa Bay 28, detectives identified the suspect as 40-year-old Adreon Javon Grant of Largo. Police say he went into the Pinellas Park parlor at about 9 p.m. and sexually battered the employee during the massage. Investigators were told he removed items he thought could identify him, tried to block the victim from calling 911, then ran from the business.
Legal stakes
Florida Statute 794.011 defines sexual battery and lays out how the offense is classified and punished, depending on factors like the victim’s age and whether force or other aggravating circumstances are involved. Tampering with a witness falls under Florida Statute 914.22, which makes it a felony to use intimidation or misleading conduct to interfere with reporting or testimony.
Police account of arrest
Detectives say they later learned Grant came back to the area more than six hours after the alleged assault and drove past the massage parlor. When officers tried to stop the vehicle they believed he was driving, police say he crashed into a tree. Grant was not hurt, was taken into custody and transported to the Pinellas County Jail. He is facing charges of sexual battery and tampering with a witness, according to Tampa Bay 28.
Police say the investigation is still active and that no further details were immediately released. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Pinellas Park Police Department, according to officials.
