A 21-year-old Atlanta man is behind bars after investigators say he sprayed bullets at homes and people during a 2024 Lithonia drive-by, a burst of gunfire that neighbors said rattled windows along Stonebridge Crescent.
The shooting happened on Feb. 10, 2024, and, despite the chaos, authorities reported no injuries. The case stayed active for more than a year until what officials described as a coordinated, multi-jurisdictional fugitive operation led to an arrest on Wednesday, March 31, in Clayton County.
According to a press release via FOX 5 Atlanta, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit, working with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and Clayton County police, took Davion Jermarie Knox into custody at a home in Clayton County on March 31. Officials said the arrest was made without incident and that Knox had been wanted in connection with the Stonebridge Crescent shooting since early 2024.
Knox was transported to the DeKalb County Jail in Decatur. The sheriff’s office lists its headquarters and jail on Memorial Drive in Decatur, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
Charges and Legal Context
Prosecutors have filed 31 felony counts against Knox, including multiple counts of aggravated assault with intent to murder, alleged violations of Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act, and first-degree criminal damage to property, officials said. He is being held without bond at the DeKalb County Jail, according to the release via FOX 5 Atlanta.
What the Gang Statute Covers
Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act allows prosecutors to seek enhanced penalties when crimes are committed for the benefit of, at the direction of, or in association with a criminal street gang. The law spells out the elements prosecutors must prove and the predicate offenses that can trigger enhanced penalties. The statute text is available at Justia.
Investigation and Next Steps
Authorities say the arrest caps a two-year investigation and was carried out with help from a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, a federal program that routinely partners with local law enforcement on long-running fugitive hunts. The U.S. Marshals Service regularly publishes updates on similar cooperative operations.
Officials did not immediately release further information about the evidence in the case or an arraignment date.
