In the predawn quiet of Wednesday morning, a Corvette shot off the westbound 60 Freeway and straight into the side of a Maserati dealership in the City of Industry, turning the luxury showroom into the backdrop for a real-life action scene. The car rolled several times in the air before coming to rest against the building, scattering shattered glass and a toppled light pole across the lot. Remarkably, both people inside the Corvette escaped without serious injuries.
Rear-camera footage obtained by KTLA shows the Corvette weaving between lanes, then suddenly cutting hard to the right, clipping a guardrail and launching into the air. The car flips multiple times before slamming into the dealership, according to the Los Angeles Times. The crash happened at about 1:45 a.m. near the Gage Avenue exit, and local outlets say the dramatic video has been making the rounds on TV and social media.
Dealership Damage And Occupants
FOX 11 Los Angeles reported that the impact snapped a concrete light pole at its base, ripped out roughly 30 feet of chain-link fence and blew out several large showroom windows. The dealership manager told the station that none of the Maseratis on the lot were damaged. According to FOX 11, the California Highway Patrol confirmed that both occupants of the Corvette walked away from the wreck, though the showroom itself will need repairs before it can reopen to customers.
Investigation Under Way
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and has not yet said whether speed, impairment or street racing played any role, the Los Angeles Times reported. As of publication time, officials had not released further details about the cause of the crash or whether any charges might follow.
