An early Monday attempt by Louisburg officers to stop a car turned into a high-speed pursuit that stretched toward the Franklin-Wake County line and ended with two men in custody, according to Louisburg police. Officers were chasing an orange Dodge Challenger that police say had been reported stolen. The driver and a second man jumped out of the vehicle and ran, but officers found both after a brief search. Police later identified the suspects as 19-year-old Davion Markise Rogers of Clayton and 21-year-old Montez Crishawn Baker of Raleigh.
How the chase unfolded
Louisburg officers initially tried to stop two cars, a white Infiniti and an orange Dodge Challenger, as they traveled south on Bickett Boulevard. Police say the Infiniti split off and did not continue in the encounter, while officers stayed on the Challenger. According to the department, the Challenger had been reported stolen from a home in Vance County, and the pursuit continued until it neared the county line. The chase ended there after the two men abandoned the vehicle and took off on foot, according to CBS17.
Multi-agency response
Louisburg police credited the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, the Wake County Sheriff's Office and the Rolesville Police Department with helping during the search for the suspects. Local reporting notes that similar multi-jurisdiction pursuits have played out in Wake County in recent months, with agencies coordinating as vehicles cross into new areas. WRAL reported a comparable chase last year that likewise involved officers tracking a suspected stolen vehicle across local boundaries.
Charges and booking
Police said Rogers faces charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer. Baker faces charges that include possession of a stolen vehicle, speeding to elude arrest, reckless driving, resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer, driving without a license, speeding and failure to maintain lane control. Both men were booked into the Franklin County Detention Complex and are being held without bond, according to the police department, per CBS17.
Legal notes
Some of the charges listed, including fleeing or speeding to elude, can expose a defendant to felony penalties depending on the circumstances and their prior record, while other counts may be misdemeanors. Prosecutors and the courts will determine how the case proceeds. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty, and investigators say the case remains active.
