A brazen attempted carjacking in broad daylight has D.C. police hunting for two suspects after a woman was targeted in Northeast earlier this week.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the pair allegedly opened the driver’s door of a woman’s car and demanded her keys just after 2 p.m. on April 8 on the 700 block of 11th Street NE. The driver managed to pull away, and the suspects took off running. No injuries were reported, and nearby surveillance cameras recorded the encounter, police said.

As reported by WUSA9, police released still images from those security cameras and asked the public to help identify the two people. The station noted that beyond the photographs, officers did not provide descriptions or ages for the suspects. According to WUSA9’s account, the two appeared unarmed and ran off on foot after the woman drove away.

Per the Metropolitan Police Department, anyone with information is asked to call the tip line at (202) 727-9099 or send anonymous text tips to 50411. Both tip lines are monitored 24/7. Investigators said they are reviewing additional video and canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses. Authorities also urged residents not to confront the individuals shown in the released images and instead share any information directly with detectives.

How neighbors can help

Police are asking residents to review doorbell and security camera footage from April 8 and save any clips that might show the people from the released images. If you recognize them, pass that footage and any tips to investigators using the phone or text options listed above rather than approaching anyone on your own. This story will be updated if police make an arrest or release more details.
