State data show risks for riders
Motorcyclists remain overrepresented in traffic deaths, and unsafe speed is the leading primary crash factor in fatal and serious-injury motorcycle crashes, particularly on arterials and expressways. Data from UC Berkeley SafeTREC shows motorcycles accounted for roughly 14 percent of traffic deaths in 2022 and lists unsafe speed as the top primary crash factor in motorcycle fatal and serious-injury crashes.
Recent deadly crashes in the region
The April 25 death follows other fatal motorcycle collisions in the region. On March 21, a rider was killed after a crash on northbound Interstate 5 near Pocket Road, where the rider was ejected and then struck by a passing vehicle, according to The Sacramento Bee. The CHP said the driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
