A Saturday night walk on Pacific Place ended in tragedy when a man was struck and killed by an SUV in Long Beach, according to police. Officers were dispatched at 7:55 p.m. to Pacific Place and West Wardlow Road, where Long Beach Fire Department paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.

Long Beach police said a preliminary investigation found that the driver of a 2025 Subaru Crosstrek was traveling southbound on Pacific Place in the No. 1 lane when the vehicle hit a pedestrian who was walking in the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk. The motorist stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, and speed, distracted driving, and driving under the influence are not believed to be factors, as reported by MyNewsLA.

Police Seeking Witnesses

The Long Beach Police Department is asking anyone who saw the crash or who may have video of it to contact the LBPD Collision Investigation Detail at 562-570-7355 or submit anonymous tips through Los Angeles-area Crime Stoppers. Per the Long Beach Police Department, detectives routinely call on the public for footage or eyewitness accounts in fatal-collision investigations.

Part of a Troubling Pattern

Pacific Place, which becomes Pacific Avenue north of Wardlow, has been one of the city’s deadliest corridors for people on foot, with multiple fatal crashes in recent years. Police data show Long Beach recorded 53 fatal crashes in 2025, and city officials have moved to add automated speed enforcement and street redesigns to try to reduce collisions, NBC Los Angeles reported. The Long Beach Post has also flagged Pacific Place as a particularly hazardous stretch.

History at the Intersection

The same intersection drew attention after an Aug. 6, 2025, fatal crash at Pacific Place and Wardlow. A Long Beach Police Department release about that collision similarly reported that the driver stayed at the scene and that speed, distraction, and impairment did not appear to be factors. The repeated tragedies have fueled calls from neighbors and city officials for design changes on Pacific Place.

The LBPD said the latest investigation is ongoing and that more details will be released as detectives gather evidence. Authorities reiterated their request for anyone with information to contact the Collision Investigation Detail at 562-570-7355. MyNewsLA reported the initial statement from police.
