A late-night run to a Dyckman Street bar ended in violence earlier this month, and now police are asking Inwood residents to help them track down a suspect.
Investigators say a 32-year-old man was repeatedly stabbed in the back outside a busy bar-and-grill in the neighborhood just after last call. The attack, which detectives describe as still very much an open case, unfolded in the early hours of April 4.
According to amNewYork, the violence broke out around 1:40 a.m. at 106 Dyckman St., right outside the 809 Bar & Grill. Officers from the NYPD’s 34th Precinct arrived to find the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds to his back. Police said the attacker displayed a cutting instrument during the confrontation, then fled in an unknown direction. No arrests have been made, and the victim refused medical attention at the scene, the outlet reported.
Police release photo, seek tips
The NYPD has now released a surveillance image of a person of interest and is asking anyone who recognizes the individual to come forward. As noted by NYPD Crime Stoppers, tips can be submitted by calling 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), submitting information online, or using the department’s designated tip channels. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
Detectives are also urging nearby residents and businesses to hang on to any surveillance, doorbell, or security footage that might show the suspect’s movements before or after the stabbing, saying that video evidence often makes the difference in cases like this.
Where this happened and local context
The incident took place within the NYPD’s 34th Precinct, which covers Washington Heights and Inwood, according to the precinct’s public information. The precinct regularly holds community council meetings and outreach events, and officers say that eyewitness accounts and privately held video frequently help them piece together timelines in investigations.
Detectives say the probe into the April 4 attack remains active. Anyone who was in the area of 106 Dyckman St. that night and has information or footage is asked to contact Crime Stoppers so investigators can follow up.
