Timothy Sadowski, the man who keeps Ecorse's books balanced, is now facing some serious legal math of his own. The city controller was arrested in Columbia County, Wisconsin, and is staring down charges that include attempted burglary, criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct. Ecorse officials have pulled him off the job and placed him on unpaid administrative leave while investigators in Wisconsin and back home sift through what happened.

Highway Disturbance Leads To Arrest Outside Poynette

According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, things began Tuesday evening when Wisconsin State Patrol alerted deputies to a disturbance on I-90/94 near the town of Dekorra. A short time later, officers were sent to check out a 911 call reporting an attempted break-in near County Highway V and Voss Road. K9 teams and drones were brought in to search the nearby woods. The hunt ended the next morning, when deputies found the suspect walking along County Highway CS outside Poynette and took him into custody. The sheriff’s office confirmed Sadowski's arrest and the list of charges, as reported by WMTV.

Ecorse City Hall Scrambles After Controller Pulled

Back in Ecorse, City Attorney Edward Plato says he is working with the city's police chief to gather all the facts surrounding the case. In the meantime, temporary staffers have been slotted in to handle Sadowski’s responsibilities while he sits on unpaid administrative leave. When reporters stopped by City Hall, staff declined to comment, and both the mayor and city council president had not responded to emails by the time of publication, according to ClickOnDetroit.

From Budget Warnings To Legal Trouble

Sadowski holds a dual role as Ecorse’s city administrator and controller, overseeing the city's finances. Earlier this year, that meant sounding the alarm about money problems and possible staff cuts. He told 7 News Detroit that the city had about $1.2 million in cash on hand to get through July 1 and was counting on state revenue in May to help keep operations funded, as reported by WXYZ.

Potential Stolen Property And Ongoing Case Review

Authorities say Sadowski, 42, was booked into the Columbia County Jail. Investigators also reported finding items they believe could be stolen, and the sheriff’s office has warned that more charges might be added. Anyone who thinks they might be missing property has been urged to contact the Poynette Police Department, per WMTV. Prosecutors in Columbia County are now reviewing the case while the investigation continues.

City Tries To Keep The Lights On

Ecorse officials say their main concern is keeping daily city operations moving while the legal process plays out. With their top money manager sidelined, they have declined to offer further public comment until Wisconsin investigators finish more of their work, according to ClickOnDetroit. Residents and local businesses that depend on the city's financial machinery will be watching closely to see whether this case brings any longer-term shakeups at City Hall.
