Authorities say a chaotic scene in Berkeley on March 2 only came to a halt when a car slammed into a house on the 6100 block of Jefferson Avenue, with two relatives inside promptly taken into custody. Police have identified the pair as Tylek K. Tuggle and Ervionte Tuggle, and prosecutors say both now face multiple felony counts. Officers say the crash brought the incident to an end and led directly to the defendants' arrests.
Police Say Shooting Began In Liquor Store Parking Lot
Investigators say the trouble started in the parking lot of a liquor store at Jefferson Avenue and Airport Road, where the two allegedly opened fire at victims and their vehicle. Surveillance video reportedly captured the gunfire, and court papers describe the targeted vehicle as a 2023 Hyundai. The suspects' car then swerved off the road and crashed into a house on the 6100 block of Jefferson. Law enforcement later arrested both men and say they confessed to the shooting, according to FOX2.
What The Charges Mean Under State Law
Under Missouri law, assault in the first degree covers conduct that attempts to kill or that knowingly causes or attempts to cause serious physical injury. It is generally a Class B felony, but it can be elevated to a Class A felony if serious injury results. Armed criminal action, the charge tied to committing a felony with a deadly weapon, is an unclassified felony that carries additional prison time. For the statutory language, see Justia and FindLaw.
Prosecutors' Filings, Bond And Court Dates
According to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Tylek and Ervionte Tuggle have each been charged with four counts of first-degree assault, five counts of armed criminal action and one count of unlawful use of a weapon. Prosecutors set cash-only bonds of $750,000 for each defendant. A bond-reduction hearing is scheduled for April 7 and a preliminary hearing for April 27, 2026, FOX2 reports.
