Downtown San Antonio is about to get a serious sugar rush just in time for Fiesta. Insomnia Cookies is opening its first downtown bakery at 122 E Houston St., with a grand opening set for April 25 during the citywide celebration. The Philadelphia-born chain, famous for late-night warm-cookie delivery, is rolling its signature menu right onto Houston Street's tourist strip and plans to cater to walk-ins and delivery orders from downtown workers, visitors and night owls.
State project filings describe the space as a 1,329-square-foot tenant finish-out with an estimated construction cost of $241,297 and a January 13, 2026 completion date, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The record lists Onyx Creative as the design firm and shows work began in December 2025.
To kick things off during Fiesta, the bakery will hand out free cookies to customers who sign up for the chain's rewards program between noon and 3 a.m. on April 25, and Insomnia is offering free delivery with code SANANTONIO through May 11, as reported by CultureMap San Antonio. CultureMap also lists the store's initial hours as Sunday noon to 1 a.m.; Monday through Wednesday 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.; Thursday and Friday 11 a.m. to 3 a.m.; and Saturday noon to 3 a.m.
The downtown shop was first flagged in project filings last fall and will be Insomnia's third San Antonio location, KSAT reported. KSAT's coverage noted that the storefront faces Houston Street across from the Embassy Suites Riverwalk and sits close to several downtown restaurants.
Why Downtown?
The brand usually gravitates toward college neighborhoods, but downtown's steady foot traffic and tourist appeal appear to have made this stretch of Houston Street a tempting bet, CultureMap San Antonio notes. Landing a bakery here drops warm cookies into the mix of other late-night treats and streamlines delivery for visitors and late-shift workers staying in or near the urban core.
What It Means For Late-Night Options
Insomnia opened its first two San Antonio stores in 2024, one near UTSA and another in the Medical Center, and the chain has built its reputation on delivering warm cookies well into the night, the San Antonio Express-News reported. With that existing footprint and delivery model, downtown residents and visitors should be able to get boxes of warm cookies without trekking back to the northwest side.
The Business Journal reached out to Insomnia Cookies for comment and did not receive a response by publishing, KSAT noted. Fans aiming to score a free cookie on opening day will need to sign up for the rewards program on April 25, or look for the SANANTONIO delivery code through May 11.
