Pav's Creamery is trading in some of its scoops for caffeine shots. The family-owned chain has unveiled plans for Pav's Beanery, a compact standalone coffee spot designed to run entirely as a drive through with a walk-up window near Oakwood Square in Plain Township.

The Beanery is slated to come in at roughly 600 to 800 square feet and operate as a 100% drive through with a walk-up window, according to Cleveland.com. The Stark County Regional Planning Commission granted conditional approval on April 7 for an 800-square-foot drive-thru on the north side of Easton Street NE at Middlebranch Avenue NE, near Oakwood Square, as reported by The Repository. Construction on the vacant lot is expected to wrap up by the end of the year, per The Repository.

Pav's traces its roots back to 1969, and "Serving Award Winning Ice Cream Since 1969" is how the company greets visitors on its homepage, according to Pav's Creamery. The Beanery is being pitched as a complementary brand that will channel Pav's syrups, creams and other proprietary ingredients into coffee-forward drinks.

Menu, roaster and how it will work

The plan is for Pav's Beanery to mix indulgent, dessert-style flavors with straightforward espresso classics, using Pav's creams and syrups in some of the drinks, as reported by The Repository. The company expects to partner with local roastery M&H Beans for its espresso; M&H lists a roastery location at 706 S Main St. in North Canton, per MapQuest.

Where it sits and what's next

Pav's Beanery is slated to pour cold foams and affogatos alongside other beverages, and co-owner Nik Pappas told Cleveland.com the idea had been percolating for more than a year. Officials say hours of operation and a firm opening date will be announced as the project moves ahead.

The Beanery layers a local twist onto the region's coffee scene by pairing a neighborhood roaster with Pav's signature flavorings. Plain Township neighbors can expect to see crews on site later this year as the compact drive-thru takes shape.
