A quiet late morning on Glorietta Bay turned suddenly tense yesterday when passers-by spotted a woman floating in the water near the Coronado Yacht Club and rushed to pull her to safety. Despite their efforts and several minutes of CPR by first responders, the woman later died, and authorities say they still do not know who she is.
Coronado police say the woman was 62 years old and remains unidentified while investigators work to piece together what happened. Officers were called a little after 11:30 AM to Glorietta Bay, where witnesses had already brought the woman to the dock at the Coronado Yacht Club. Emergency crews tried to resuscitate her but were unable to revive her, according to NBC 7 San Diego.
Where It Happened
The woman was pulled to the docks at the Coronado Yacht Club, which lists its address as 1631 Strand Way and overlooks Glorietta Bay, according to Coronado Yacht Club. Glorietta Bay is a protected cove between the Hotel del Coronado and the Coronado Bridge and is a popular spot for small-boat activity and paddlers. Because the club sits right on the water, people onshore were able to reach the dock quickly and try to help.
Investigation
Coronado police said in a news release that the death is under active investigation and that they have not released the woman's identity, according to NBC 7 San Diego. Detectives are continuing to follow leads, and the department did not immediately provide further details.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Coronado Police Department's non-emergency line at 619-522-7350, per the City of Coronado.
