The Dungeon, a subterranean speakeasy tucked beneath Villa Bar & Banquet in Grandville, is quietly turning into the spot locals whisper about for moody dinners and serious cocktails. Think stone walls, plush seating, and a room built for lingering over shared plates long after you said you were heading home.
Getting in feels intentional. Guests slip through a side entrance and descend into a low-lit dining room where the playlist is as curated as the drinks list. The team bills The Dungeon as a restaurant-first hideaway, one that also hosts live music, DJs and private events when the night calls for it.
Menu, Mood And A Hidden Entry
The Dungeon recently debuted its first seasonal menu and plans to swap in new dishes roughly every four months, pulling flavors from across the Mediterranean basin, including North and West Africa, the Levant, West Asia, Greece, Spain and France. Executive Chef John Siegfried, who joined the team on New Year’s Eve, is turning out plates like handmade ravioli stuffed with caramelized onions and goat cheese ($10), house-smoked wings with honey-fig sauce ($17), a pan-roasted pork chop with a honey-Dijon herb crust and truffle-flecked sides ($38), and a classic tiramisu ($11). General Manager Brenna De Young said, “people are very surprised, mainly because of the restaurant that was here prior,” as reported by MLive.
Hours And Reservations
According to Villa Bar & Banquet, The Dungeon keeps regular hours Tuesday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., with Fridays and Saturdays running later into the evening, plus Sunday brunch during the day. The space is also open for private-event bookings, and the venue lists a contact number and events email for locking in reservations.
How It Came Together
The Dungeon’s current chapter follows a 2024 renovation and relaunch of the Grand Villa property by Manoj and Nina Mulki, who purchased the building with plans to revive the basement bar as a speakeasy, as detailed by Crain's Grand Rapids Business. The Mulkis focused on preserving the lower level’s exposed rock while programming live music, DJ nights and ticketed dinners to pull in guests from across the region.
Plan Your Visit
The Dungeon leans into a restaurant-first model, with rotating seasonal menus, craft cocktails and occasional one-night wine dinners that are promoted through the venue’s events listings.
