Brooklyn detectives are asking neighbors to help track down an attacker who left a 33-year-old man badly hurt on a Gravesend sidewalk late last month.
The assault happened around 8:10 p.m. on March 26 in front of 97 Avenue S in the NYPD’s 62nd Precinct. Police say the victim suffered a head laceration after being struck multiple times with an unknown metal object. The attacker took off before officers arrived.
Police Release Wanted Alert
On April 8, NYPD Crime Stoppers posted a wanted bulletin with still images of the suspect, calling the attacker unidentified and on the run. The alert advertises a reward of up to $3,500 for information that leads to an arrest and urges anyone with video or details to speak up. It lists the March 26 time and location and includes instructions on how to submit anonymous tips.
Where It Happened
The address, 97 Avenue S, sits in Gravesend in southern Brooklyn within the 62nd Precinct, a largely residential stretch dotted with small storefronts. Property records and neighborhood listings place the building in Community District 311 and confirm it falls inside Precinct 62, according to StreetEasy.
How To Submit Tips
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers. Tips can be sent online, through the NYPD’s mobile app, or by calling 1-800-577-TIPS. Spanish speakers are directed to call 1-888-57-PISTA, per the NYPD. Officials say tipsters can remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward if their information leads to an arrest.
Context And Trend
The department has been leaning on Crime Stoppers posts this spring to crowdsource leads in violent cases across Brooklyn, using surveillance stills to move investigations forward. Local coverage has highlighted similar wanted alerts and the way detectives work with shared images and videos, including a recent Fort Greene case described as Knife-Wielding Trio Jumps Commuter.
Investigation Ongoing
So far, there have been no public reports of any arrests tied to the March 26 attack. Detectives in the 62nd Precinct continue to investigate and are again urging anyone with footage or information to share it through the Crime Stoppers channels listed in the department’s alert.
