
Gunfire along a stretch of U.S. 190 in Hammond on Wednesday night spilled into a nearby subdivision, leaving two people wounded and sending police on a search for answers, authorities said. Officers found a woman injured along the highway and a man shot inside a vehicle in the nearby St. Paul Loop subdivision. Both were taken to local hospitals, and the Hammond Police Department says the case is still under active investigation.
Woman Found Wounded Along U.S. 190
Hammond officers say they were called out at about 8:22 p.m. after reports that a woman had been shot along U.S. 190 near Morris Road. She was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound to her right arm, according to WBRZ. Police have not publicly released information about her condition.
Man Shot Inside Vehicle in Nearby Subdivision
While officers assisted the woman on the highway, other units headed into the St. Paul Loop subdivision, where they found a vehicle that had been hit by gunfire and a man inside with a gunshot wound to his shoulder. He was also taken to a hospital for treatment. The Hammond Police Department has not released the names of either victim and is urging anyone who knows what happened to contact investigators.
Detectives Probe Linked Shootings, No Suspects Named
Investigators believe the vehicle was shot during the same incident that injured the woman along U.S. 190, and officers are canvassing the area for witnesses and physical evidence. No arrests had been announced as of Wednesday night, according to WBRZ, and detectives with HPD are still working to piece together the sequence of events that led up to the gunfire.
