Gunfire shattered a South Park street late Monday night, leaving one person wounded and drawing a heavy police response to a busy South Los Angeles intersection.
LAPD Newton Division officers were called to East 46th Street and South Avalon Boulevard around 11 p.m., where they found a wounded victim who was taken to a hospital. The call brought a surge of patrol cars into the neighborhood as officers locked down the area and started hunting for evidence and suspects.
According to MyNewsLA, an LAPD officer told City News Service that witnesses reported a large group of suspects opening fire on the victim before fleeing the scene, possibly in a white vehicle. The officer did not immediately release the wounded person's name, age, or condition.
Witnesses describe chaotic scene
People at the intersection described a chaotic few minutes, with multiple shooters, a burst of gunfire, and a quick getaway. Several bystanders tried to flag down officers to share what they had seen. Neighbors said the flashing lights and police activity stretched late into the night as detectives searched for shell casings and checked nearby cameras for surveillance footage.
Police have released a few details
As of Tuesday, there was still no public suspect information or detailed description, and police had not announced any arrests, MyNewsLA reported. Detectives from the LAPD's Newton Division are handling the investigation while officers continue canvassing the area for witnesses and additional evidence.
