A late-night shooting on Carlyle Drive in west Charlotte left one person injured and a lot of neighbors feeling like their street just got a little less safe. Residents told reporters they are worried about what they see as an uptick in violent crime and say they are bracing for more incidents.
According to WCNC, the shooting happened overnight on Carlyle Drive and left one person hurt. Neighbors told the station they are on edge after multiple recent shootings in the area and are paying closer attention to what is happening outside their front doors.
Police data and citywide trends
On paper, the broader picture looks a lot calmer. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s 2025 end-of-year public safety report shows overall crime fell 9% in 2025 and violent crime dropped 21% compared with 2024, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. CMPD credits the declines to more proactive patrols and targeted Crime Reduction Units in neighborhoods flagged as high-need.
Local pattern and recent incidents
Still, some pockets of west Charlotte are seeing serious incidents that statistics do not easily explain away. Hoodline reported that a Feb. 14 shooting at the Perimeter Pointe apartment complex left one person critically injured (morning gunfire at complex). Against that backdrop, neighbors told WCNC it is no surprise the latest overnight shots on Carlyle Drive have them feeling especially unsettled.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about the Carlyle Drive shooting to contact Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or submit tips through CMPD’s online tip portal, listed on the department’s website. This story will be updated if officials release additional details.
