Hell’s Kitchen just picked up a new late-night sugar fix. Bluestreet Café quietly opened Tuesday on Ninth Avenue near West 49th Street, sliding into the neighborhood as a compact counter spot promising crepes, waffles and coffee from morning through midnight. The new café comes from owners Recep Tasci and Mehmet Sarihan.
According to W42ST, Bluestreet is positioning itself as both a daytime coffee stop and a late-night dessert destination. The report by Steve Hill notes that the shop’s posted hours run “from morning through to midnight,” with crepes, waffles and coffee anchoring the menu for early commuters and night owls alike.
A Troubled Storefront Gets A Sweet Reset
The café has taken over the narrow commercial space at 696 9th Avenue, a building that lists one commercial unit and nine residential units in its property profile. Previous tenants at that address have included Lunchbox Exotics and Hell’s Kitchen Pizza, according to MapQuest. Public property records from PropertyShark show the building last changed hands in July 2024.
Why Ninth Avenue Makes Sense
Ninth Avenue is packed with eateries and sits just steps from the Theater District, which makes a crepe and waffle concept an easy sell for post-show crowds and late diners. The block’s walkability and dense restaurant mix are highlighted in neighborhood listings and local guides on Apartments.com. Bluestreet’s morning-to-midnight hours appear calibrated to catch both the early caffeine crowd and anyone hunting for dessert on the way home.
For now, Bluestreet has slipped into the lineup on this ever-changing stretch of Ninth Avenue with a soft opening and little fanfare. We will be watching to see when the owners roll out a formal grand opening or any expanded menu details.
