A short but nasty armed robbery spree across Jacksonville is over, thanks to some old-fashioned detective work and a whole lot of video review.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, 38-year-old James Weaver and 25-year-old Richard King are accused of terrorizing lone cashiers over roughly 10 days, using pepper spray on victims and cleaning out cash registers at several stores before finally getting caught.
Both men were arrested and booked into the Duval County Jail on multiple counts of armed robbery after investigators pieced together their movements through surveillance footage and other evidence, the agency said on X, as reported by the Jax Sheriff's Office.
How Detectives Tracked the Suspects
Detective Raquel Anderson of the Robbery and Violent Crimes Unit led the investigation, spending hours combing through store surveillance video and coordinating with the department's Real Time Crime Center to lock in key details about the suspects and their getaway routes.
For her work on the case, the sheriff's office named Anderson one of its "detectives of the month," according to the Jax Sheriff's Office.
Charges And What's Next
Weaver and King remain in the Duval County Jail on multiple armed robbery counts while prosecutors review the case. The sheriff's office did not provide bond information or upcoming court dates in its post. Formal charges and scheduling details will appear in court records and the county clerk's database once prosecutors file the case.
What This Means For Local Businesses
The arrests highlight how critical security cameras and fast reporting can be for small businesses and overnight staff, especially when suspects are targeting lone workers.
Officials urged anyone who may have additional information or surveillance footage related to the robberies to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office tip line so investigators can continue building the case.
