Kitsap County’s emergency phone system is back in business after a brief scare Saturday, April 25, 2026, when some 911 calls hit busy signals or simply dropped. Kitsap 911 said the temporary problem affecting local emergency calls has been resolved, although residents who still cannot connect are being urged to try alternate methods to reach help.
The agency announced the fix in a Facebook update, with Kitsap 911 stating that its “lines are back up and in service” and reminding anyone facing a life-threatening emergency or an in-progress crime that they can call 360-307-5844. The post followed earlier alerts flagging problems tied to phone-carrier disruptions.
How To Reach Help If Calls Fail
Kitsap 911 lists alternate contact options, including the outside-county emergency line at 360-307-5844, and notes that residents can text 911 if a voice call will not connect. The agency also recommends trying a different phone or carrier and, if available, a landline.
Why Some Calls Do Not Go Through
Local dispatchers say many of the recent disruptions trace back to carrier network problems rather than a failure of county dispatch equipment. The Bainbridge Island Review reported earlier in April that a Verizon outage affected dozens of cell sites across the peninsula, and Kitsap 911’s executive director told the paper that carrier outages, not the agency’s systems, are often to blame.
Past Outages And What They Mean
Major carrier disruptions have triggered multi-county 911 issues before and drawn attention from state and federal officials. The Seattle Times chronicled a large 2021 outage in Western Washington that forced agencies to post alternative numbers and lean on text-to-911 while service was restored.
What Residents Should Do
If you still cannot get through to 911, try another device or carrier, send a text to 911 with your exact location and the type of emergency, or call 360-307-5844. Your phone carrier can also confirm whether a known outage is affecting service in your area. It is a good idea to save local non-emergency numbers in your contacts and bookmark the Kitsap 911 site for quick access to updates.
