A routine drive along the northbound 249 service road at Three Lakes turned tense on Sunday when a live electrical wire was left stretched across the roadway after a vehicle hit utility equipment, deputies said. Harris County Constable Precinct 4 warned drivers to use extreme caution while crews worked to secure the scene and keep traffic moving.
Vehicle Struck Utility Property, Deputies Say
In a social media update, deputies reported that a vehicle struck CenterPoint property and left a live power line across the roadway. The post said deputies were already on scene managing traffic while CenterPoint crews were on the way to deal with the electrical hazard. Drivers in the area were urged to slow down, stay alert and use extreme caution near the scene, according to Mark Herman, Harris County Constable Precinct 4.
CenterPoint Safety Guidance for Downed Lines
CenterPoint Energy reminds the public that any downed power line should be treated as energized and extremely dangerous. The utility advises staying at least 35 feet away and calling 911, then reporting the situation directly to CenterPoint at 713-207-2222 or 800-332-7143. If a vehicle comes into contact with a power pole, drivers are urged to remain inside unless there is fire or smoke, and to follow the specific steps outlined in the company’s outage center, according to CenterPoint Energy.
Where To Get Updates
For drivers trying to figure out whether 249 is clear, the precinct’s post pointed people to its Facebook page, Instagram @constablepct4 and the C4 NOW mobile app for live traffic and crash updates. Motorists in the area are encouraged to monitor those official channels for the latest word on closures and cleanup progress, according to Mark Herman, Harris County Constable Precinct 4.
