Crossroads Deli & Catering in Mahopac reopened on Wednesday after four months of rebuilding, and its regulars showed up like they had been counting the days. The Route 6 spot had been shuttered since a December crash sent a car straight through its storefront, but by reopening day the counter was packed again. Owners Denise and James Russell, who first opened the deli in 2011, spent the day hustling through orders as the soft reopening turned into a full-on neighborhood homecoming.
According to News 12 New York, Denise Russell said, "We did over 400 covers [Wednesday], it was incredible. We went through 180 pounds of chicken." The outlet notes that Crossroads has been a community staple since 2011 and lists its current hours as Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Crash Forced Months of Repairs
Last December a two-car crash sent one vehicle into the front of the shop, causing extensive damage and prompting emergency crews to respond, as reported by AOL. In the immediate aftermath, staff posted on social media asking for plywood and help boarding up the smashed storefront. Catering jobs and regular deli service were put on hold while repairs dragged through the winter and into early spring.
Local Fixture Returns to Route 6
The business is listed at 616 Route 6 and is run by James and Denise Russell, according to the Carmel‑Kent Chamber of Commerce. Local directories, along with the deli’s own listings, describe Crossroads as a long-running neighborhood deli and catering operation serving Mahopac and surrounding communities.
The owners told News 12 New York they were overwhelmed by the turnout and are hoping the strong return can help make up for lost holiday business. For now, the signs are lit again on Route 6 and the familiar smell of sandwiches and coffee is back on the block.
