A possible explosion at the Carolina Beverage Group manufacturing plant in Mooresville drew a heavy police and fire response Tuesday morning and shut down Mazeppa Road near Barley Park Lane, turning a busy industrial corridor into an active emergency scene. Crews moved in quickly as officials worked to secure the site and check for damage.
According to WCNC, Mooresville Police, Mooresville Fire-Rescue and the Iredell County Sheriff's Office all responded to the Carolina Beverage Group property, where a WCNC crew noted a significant law-enforcement presence. The station reported that Mazeppa Road was closed in both directions near Barley Park Lane as emergency personnel worked just off the roadway.
Plant and Local Role
Carolina Beverage Group describes its Mooresville facility as a flagship manufacturing site that runs high-speed canned-beverage production lines and supports nearby distribution centers. The plant at 110 Barley Park Lane handles cold-fill, hot-fill and tunnel pasteurization and employs hundreds in South Iredell, according to Carolina Beverage Group.
Road Closures and Response
WCNC reported that Mazeppa Road was shut down in both directions near Barley Park Lane while responders investigated the scene just off the roadway. The corridor serves the South Iredell industrial park and several manufacturing operations, and Town of Mooresville planning documents note the roadway has been the focus of improvement projects to cut down on blockages that can slow emergency response. Even a short-term closure can throw a wrench into access for nearby businesses.
What Officials Say
As of the time of reporting, neither Iredell County nor the Iredell County Sheriff's Office had posted a formal incident release about what happened. Carolina Beverage Group had not issued a public statement on its site as of Tuesday morning.
Why It Matters
The Mooresville plant sits in a growing cluster of beverage and light manufacturing operations in southern Iredell County, where co-packers like this one help keep products moving through regional supply chains. Carolina Beverage Group's expansion in Mooresville was previously detailed by the Charlotte Business Journal, so any extended disruption at the site could ripple into shipments and local jobs.
By mid-day, state and local investigators had not publicly identified a cause, and emergency crews remained on scene into the afternoon. This story will be updated as authorities and the company release more information.
