A late-night stop at a Memphis recording studio turned violent when gunfire outside the building left two people wounded and police scrambling to find an SUV they say was used in the attack.
On Thursday, April 2, 2026, Memphis police released photos of the vehicle connected to the March 29 shooting on the 3100 block of Directors Row. A 19-year-old man remains in critical condition, while a woman who was also hit has already been treated and released. Investigators say they are actively tracking down the SUV and are pressing anyone who knows anything to come forward.
MPD Releases Photos of Suspect Vehicle
According to FOX13 Memphis, the Memphis Police Department has circulated images of a light-colored SUV it believes was involved in the shooting and credited the photos to MPD. Officers are asking the public to take a close look at the pictures and send in any tips that might help identify the vehicle.
Witness Accounts Differ on Vehicle
Early reports on the March 29 gunfire described a different scene: witnesses told police a large black SUV pulled up, and a person stood through the sunroof and fired what looked like a long gun, according to Action News 5. Police said the male victim, a 19-year-old, was in critical condition after the shooting. Investigators have not said whether the conflicting vehicle descriptions came from different witnesses or from the low light and chaotic moments during the attack, and they have not announced any arrests.
Victims Taken to Regional One
Police say the two victims were waiting to get into the studio when shots were fired. Both were rushed to Regional One Health, where the woman was treated and released and the man remained listed in critical condition, per FOX13 Memphis. Detectives say the vehicle photos are being pushed out across patrol units and investigative networks in hopes someone recognizes the SUV.
How the Public Can Help
Investigators are asking neighbors and drivers to check any dashcam, doorbell, or cellphone footage from around the 3100 block of Directors Row on the night of March 29 and call Memphis CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH, according to Action News 5. Detectives say that even minor details, like a partial tag number, a missing hubcap, or noticeable body damage, could be the key to tracking down the SUV and identifying whoever was behind the shooting.
