A full-floor, never-slept-in penthouse at the iconic Sierra Towers in West Hollywood has hit the market with a $39.5 million asking price. The newly finished three-bedroom residence spans the entire 32nd floor, and the owners say nobody has actually spent the night there.
What the listing shows
The marketing materials describe roughly 7,365 square feet of interior space with five full bathrooms and a powder room, plus a dramatic wraparound terrace of more than 5,400 square feet and panoramic views from downtown Los Angeles to the ocean. The renovation is credited to New York firm Workshop/APD, and the package includes a private elevator, gym, media room, and high-end finishes. These details appear on the public listing, according to Douglas Elliman.
How it got this way
The full-floor unit was assembled by Evan Metropoulos, who combined two penthouses bought between 2012 and 2015 and once marketed the raw, whitebox space for as much as $58 million before cutting the price. The unfinished condo later went to a no-reserve auction in 2021, where the unit sold for $17.5 million, a timeline and outcome reported by The Real Deal.
The owners: Chicago professors turned buyers
The sellers listed on the current ad are Daniel (Dan) Fischel and Sylvia Neil, a Chicago couple with deep ties to legal academia and the civic world. Neil has served as an associate dean and lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School and holds leadership roles with arts institutions, per the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Fischel is a law scholar and longtime leader at economic consulting firm Compass Lexecon, according to professional biographies.
A penthouse nobody has slept in
The couple told local press they completed the long renovation earlier this year, but have never lived in the unit. “I just want to leave it as an untouched jewel for the people who are fortunate enough to be the next owner,” one owner said, per WEHOonline. WEHOonline also notes that the $39.5 million ask would narrowly top the figure it identified as last year’s Los Angeles condo benchmark, roughly $39.2 million.
Why Sierra Towers still matters
Designed by architect Jack A. Charney and completed in 1965, Sierra Towers sits at the Sunset Strip’s edge and has long been one of the city's most recognizable high-rises. Its celebrity-packed history and rare full-floor opportunities keep demand elevated for trophy units, as noted in building histories and local listings such as Wikipedia and broker materials.
What's next
Listing agent Linda May of Carolwood Estates told local media she does not expect the property to “sit long,” per WEHOonline, and the listing is live on major broker sites and the MLS for prospective buyers to review. For local readers, the unit’s perch above Sunset Boulevard at 9255 Doheny Road is part of what keeps Sierra Towers a perennial watchlist item for high-end buyers.
