A fast-moving fire ripped through a North Las Vegas house Tuesday afternoon, sending up a towering plume of smoke that neighbors said could be seen for miles. Five people were forced from their homes, but emergency crews reported no injuries as firefighters spent hours chasing lingering hot spots while onlookers filmed the thick smoke overhead.
As reported by KTNV, crews arrived around 2:35 p.m. at a single-story home on Andrew Circle near Simmons Street and Evans Avenue. The station said five people were displaced and that by about 3:30 p.m. the fire was nearly under control.
8 News Now described the smoke plume as visible for miles and, citing a North Las Vegas Fire Department spokesperson, reported that the fire extended into neighboring homes. The outlet also said crews were still working to fully extinguish the blaze as of Tuesday evening and that officials had not immediately released a cause.
What officials and neighbors said
The North Las Vegas Fire Department told KTNV that units remained on scene to put out remaining hot spots and that investigators would determine where the fire started. Neighbors posted video and photos online and said the smoke could be seen from blocks away, while nearby streets were briefly affected as crews worked.
Investigators have not released a cause, and local broadcasters noted that officials had not provided a detailed statement beyond brief on-scene updates. This story will be updated when emergency officials release more information.
