Old Town Saginaw is trading late-night strobe lights for sunny-side-up eggs this week, as The Brunch Guy, a new breakfast-and-brunch spot from local baker Maria Austin, officially opens its doors tomorrow in the former Mixx nightclub on North Hamilton Street. The restaurant is stepping into the space with classic brunch plates, pastries and specialty drinks, giving the district a dedicated daytime draw for both weekday and weekend crowds.
According to MLive, Austin hosted an invite-only soft opening last Saturday before announcing the full opening for tomorrow. The outlet noted that in a Facebook post, the team said the trial run "taught us so much" and left them "feeling very grateful, very humbled, and very excited to officially welcome everyone in."
Menu, Hours and Reservations
The online menu on The Brunch Guy highlights omelets, eggs Benedict and other familiar brunch staples, along with a full drinks program and an option to reserve tables in advance. The site lists weekday and weekend opening hours and encourages guests to book through its built-in reservations tool. It also notes that pastries will be supplied by a local bakery.
Alcohol and Mocktails
Anyone looking for mimosas will have to wait a bit. The restaurant has said it will hold off on serving alcohol until a liquor-license transfer is finalized, and will pour mocktails in the meantime. MLive reported that the transfer process is expected to take about two weeks.
What It Means for Old Town
Beyond eggs and espresso, The Brunch Guy is plugging into the neighborhood’s small-business ecosystem. The restaurant plans to bring in baked goods from The Bread Gal, a nearby bakery listed with the Saginaw County Chamber. Regional tourism site Go Great Lakes Bay already includes The Brunch Guy among Saginaw’s coming dining options, and the owners say they hope the new spot helps boost morning foot traffic around Old Town.
Reservations are recommended and can be made through the restaurant’s online booking tool. Managers say they plan to keep an eye on customer turnout and will adjust the menu or hours as needed after the first week of service.
