Ontario police shot a man Sunday morning while responding to a reported domestic disturbance just before 9 a.m., authorities said. The man was taken to a local hospital in unknown condition. No one else was reported injured, and police have not released the man's identity or the names of the officers involved.
What Police Say
According to ABC7 Los Angeles, a 911 caller told dispatchers the man was armed, apparently with a rifle, prompting deployment of a Bearcat tactical team to the scene. At some point during the response, officers opened fire on the suspect, who was then transported to a local hospital. The Ontario Police Department confirmed the suspect was in possession of a rifle. Eyewitness News reported it had contacted the department for further details and was waiting for a response.
Local Context
In May 2024, Ontario officers fatally shot a suspect after a high-speed chase that ended in a crash, killing a bystander. The use of an armored Bearcat vehicle is a familiar sight on high-risk calls and is detailed in police tactical materials such as an Oakland Police Commission document.
What We Don't Know
Officials have not made the man's name public or provided any update on his condition beyond saying he was taken to a hospital. As ABC7 noted, police had not released additional information at the time of reporting and were still fielding questions from reporters.
