In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a pickup truck barreled through the front window of Fade Focus Gallery, coming to a stop fully inside the south St. Louis barber shop at S. Grand and Shenandoah. Police say officers were dispatched around 2 a.m. after a burglar alarm went off, and the driver was taken to a nearby hospital with non-urgent injuries. Owner Rance John said he was simply grateful no one was inside at the time and made clear he intends to keep the clippers buzzing for the neighborhood.
According to First Alert 4, St. Louis Metropolitan Police officers arrived to find the pickup fully lodged in the shop. “It’s a tragic event that took place. I’m happy that it wasn’t during the day, during operating hours,” John told the station. The outlet reports the driver was transported to an area hospital with injuries described as non-urgent.
Shop background and owner's plans
Fade Focus Gallery lists its location at 2300 S. Grand Blvd and is run by John, who also promotes his own grooming products and teaches cutting clinics. He told reporters he does not plan to close, saying he will rebuild at the current spot if possible or move nearby if it comes to that. The barbershop is a familiar storefront on busy S. Grand, a corridor that connects several south-city neighborhoods.
Intersection damage and police account
The crash knocked down a utility light and a traffic signal at the corner, leaving the intersection looking more like a construction zone than a commercial strip. Investigators remained on scene working to understand how the truck ended up inside the building. Police told First Alert 4 they believe the driver swerved to avoid someone, made a wrong turn and crashed into the shop. Authorities did not immediately release further details on the driver’s condition or whether any charges might follow.
City crews will have to inspect and repair the damaged traffic equipment before the intersection returns to normal, and Fade Focus Gallery’s reopening will depend on how extensive the structural damage turns out to be. Police continue to investigate the incident, which was first reported by First Alert 4.
