An 18-year-old former daycare worker in Pierce Township is facing a felony charge after investigators say he deleted photos of a child and admitted to inappropriate conduct while employed at a local daycare. Police say the worker was fired and is now charged with tampering with evidence. He is due back in court on April 6.
What investigators allege
According to WKRC Local 12, Pierce Township police were called to Jelly Bean Junction on March 26 after the worker, identified in court papers as 18-year-old Christopher Helmer, was fired. Investigators say Helmer allegedly kissed a child on the lips, told staff he was sexually infatuated with the child, and admitted he had photos of the child downloaded to his phone. Police allege he deleted those images after his termination because he anticipated an investigation.
Charges and legal context
Helmer has been charged with tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony under Ohio law. Under Ohio Revised Code §2921.12, the offense covers knowingly altering, destroying, or concealing records or things when an official investigation is in progress or likely, and the statute classifies the crime as a felony of the third degree.
Next steps
Prosecutors could still pursue additional charges as the investigation continues. For now, Helmer is only charged with tampering and is due back in court on April 6, according to WKRC Local 12. The case will move through the Clermont County courts as investigators review filings and other evidence.
