A pre-dawn disturbance call on a quiet Everman block turned deadly yesterday, when a man was shot multiple times outside a home and later died at a hospital. Police say a suspect is already in custody.
Officers responded around 6 a.m. to the 500 block of Georgetown Drive, where they found the victim lying in the roadway with several gunshot wounds. Everman Fire Department EMS rushed him to Texas Health Huguley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In a news release posted to the Everman Emergency Services' Facebook, Everman police said dispatchers heard multiple gunshots while they were still on the line with the 911 caller. Officers arrived to find the wounded man in the street, and emergency crews began life-saving measures at the scene. Officials have not yet released the victim’s name.
Arrest and evidence
A suspected shooter was detained several blocks from the home and taken into custody, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Investigators also recovered a handgun they say the suspect discarded while trying to run from the area.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that authorities have not released the suspect’s name and that officers continued canvassing the neighborhood and interviewing residents after the shooting.
Investigation and identification
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will formally identify the victim and determine the official cause and manner of death. The office’s public case records site explains how and when identifications are released.
Detectives say they are gathering witness statements and collecting any available camera footage from the area as the homicide investigation moves forward.
What the police are asking
Investigators believe the killing was an isolated incident tied to a domestic relationship and say there is no ongoing threat to the public, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
