A Cincinnati woman accused of playing a role in a Price Hill shooting that left a man with serious head wounds was set to face a Hamilton County judge Friday, as the criminal case begins to move from police reports to the courtroom.
Court documents and police reports identify the victim as Derrick McGowan and say the attack happened in early July, leaving him critically injured.
According to WKRC, court filings allege Ayeyanna Walker conspired with another person in the shooting that wounded McGowan. The station reports McGowan was shot in the head and that Walker has been charged with felonious assault. WKRC notes Walker was scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
What the charge means
Under Ohio law, felonious assault covers knowingly causing serious physical harm to another person or causing harm with a deadly weapon. It is charged as a felony and can come with serious time behind bars.
The statute also lets prosecutors seek tougher classifications and mandatory prison terms when certain specifications are involved, such as serious injury or the use of a firearm. As detailed in Section 2903.11 of the Ohio Revised Code, those added specifications can significantly increase the potential penalty.
Price Hill and the local picture
The early‑July shooting is one of several gun incidents in Price Hill and nearby Cincinnati neighborhoods this spring, keeping pressure on residents and police alike. Local reporting has documented a March 29 shooting in East Price Hill that left a man with a non‑life‑threatening leg wound, as well as a March 23 incident in Lower Price Hill that sent another person to the hospital. Together they sketch a map of steady police activity across the hillside neighborhoods.
Community groups and city officials have continued their prevention and outreach efforts while detectives work individual cases, according to local coverage.
For Walker, the case is now in the hands of Hamilton County court. Beyond what is listed in the charging documents, authorities have released few public details about motive or additional suspects. The next major public step in the case was the arraignment scheduled for Friday, as reported by WKRC.
