An overnight Amazon delivery run in Queens turned into a stickup early Wednesday when a driver was robbed at gunpoint and stripped of packages from his truck, according to police.
The hold-up unfolded at about 4:20 a.m. in front of 138-17 241 Street, where an unidentified person approached the delivery vehicle, displayed a firearm and removed packages, officials said. The victim was identified in an alert as a 43-year-old Amazon delivery employee. The suspect remains at large.
According to NYPD Crime Stoppers, the person brandished a firearm, grabbed multiple packages from the vehicle and then fled the scene. The program notes that tipsters may be eligible for a reward if their information leads to an arrest and indictment.
The NYPD asks anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS, submit an anonymous tip online, or send a direct message to @NYPDTips, per the NYPD. The New York City Police Foundation notes Crime Stoppers offers rewards of up to $3,500 for tips that produce an arrest and indictment.
Delivery Workers Targeted In Recent Incidents
The alert lands amid a run of ugly incidents involving couriers and for-hire drivers across the five boroughs. In March, a Domino’s driver carjacked in Woodhaven, and Hoodline previously covered a Whitestone home invasion in which suspects posed as an Amazon courier.
Detectives say anyone with door-cam, Ring cam or dash-cam footage from the area around 4:20 a.m. on Wednesday should review their recordings and contact Crime Stoppers if they spot anything useful. If you see the suspect in public, police say to call 911 immediately; otherwise call the tip line or submit information online.
