Andre Jordan II, 35, of Reynoldsburg, pleaded guilty yesterday to attempting to murder federal officers after an hours-long armed standoff at a Springfield hotel last August. Prosecutors say Jordan fired from inside a room at the Quality Inn while other adults and three young children were nearby. Under a plea agreement, federal prosecutors are recommending a 25-year prison sentence. The plea comes as Jordan is also tied to a separate Franklin County homicide investigation, where an arrest warrant links him to the killing of a Columbus man last summer.
Standoff at Quality Inn
In mid-August 2025, the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team tracked Jordan to a room at the Quality Inn in Springfield and moved in to arrest him, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Ohio. Prosecutors say Jordan looked out the window, fired a round toward the pool area where officers were positioned, then shot through his door into the hallway and later fired at least eight more rounds through connecting doors. Springfield SWAT officers and hostage negotiators eventually got him talking and, after several tense hours, Jordan surrendered and was taken into custody.
Linked to Columbus homicide
The federal plea follows an active Franklin County arrest warrant tied to the Aug. 8, 2025, fatal shooting of 40-year-old Bryan Morris Jr., who was found unresponsive near North High and Duncan streets, the Columbus Division of Police reported. Detectives say they identified a suspect after reviewing surveillance footage, and the search for that suspect ultimately put Jordan on the radar of federal fugitive task force officers. Officials have not said whether the new federal plea will have any effect on the still-active state investigation.
Plea deal and what's next
Jordan entered his guilty plea in federal court on Monday before a U.S. magistrate judge. The written plea agreement from prosecutors recommends a 25-year sentence, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Ohio. The federal case stems from the Aug. 14, 2025, standoff at the Springfield hotel, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys assigned to prosecute. A federal judge will set a sentencing date in the coming months while state authorities keep moving on their own case.
State case remains open
Local reporting and police records indicate Jordan still faces potential state charges in Franklin County for the deadly Columbus shooting, and any state case could proceed separately from whatever sentence he receives in federal court. WHIO and other outlets have laid out how investigators relied on surveillance footage and community tips to build their case after the hotel incident and the earlier Columbus homicide. Prosecutors at both the state and federal levels say they will keep coordinating as each case advances.
Background
The August 2025 arrest at the Springfield Quality Inn drew heavy local attention as officers evacuated guests and locked down the property. A contemporaneous account of the standoff and arrest was published last year, capturing the chaotic scene as it unfolded. On Monday, officials with the U.S. Attorney's Office, the Springfield Police Division and Columbus police announced Jordan's guilty plea and said they will continue working with Franklin County prosecutors while both the federal and state cases move forward. This story will be updated as courts schedule hearings and additional records become public.
