What started as a couple’s argument in north St. Louis allegedly turned into a brutal street assault that put an acquaintance in the hospital and now has a man facing serious felony charges.
According to police, a March 1 confrontation near Riverview Boulevard and Garesche Avenue ended with the victim beaten unconscious in the middle of the street. The person suffered a swollen-shut eye and head wounds that required stitches and staples, and prosecutors this week filed first-degree assault and armed criminal action charges in the case.
Charges and what prosecutors allege
Ramell Moore, identified in charging documents as living in Woodson Terrace, is charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action, the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office says, as reported by FOX2. In a probable-cause statement cited by the outlet, police say Moore “pistol‑whipped the victim until the victim lost consciousness.”
FOX2 reports that Moore remains jailed with bond set, ahead of a scheduled St. Louis Circuit Court appearance on Wednesday.
Video and injuries described by police
Investigators say the violence began when the victim tried to get out of a car and was then attacked by Moore and his girlfriend. The pair allegedly punched and kicked the victim in the head and all over the body, according to FOX2.
The outlet reports that the beating was caught on video and that the victim was taken to a hospital, where medical staff treated head wounds with several stitches and staples. The incident unfolded in the middle of the street near the border between the Walnut Park East and Walnut Park West neighborhoods.
Potential penalties under Missouri law
Missouri law defines first-degree assault, including its penalties, under RSMo, which treats the offense as a Class B felony unless the conduct causes serious physical injury. Armed criminal action is addressed in RSMo and can bring mandatory minimum prison terms that must run consecutive to any underlying sentence, per the Revisor of Missouri.
Taken together, those statutes mean a conviction on the current counts could expose a defendant to substantial prison time.
Neighborhood context
The corner of Riverview and Garesche sits at the edge of Walnut Park East and Walnut Park West, areas that have long struggled with higher rates of violent crime than much of St. Louis. Local profiles such as Homes.com point to elevated violent-crime scores in Walnut Park West, underscoring ongoing safety concerns for residents.
Moore is due back in St. Louis Circuit Court on Wednesday as prosecutors continue to press the case. The investigation remains active, and authorities have not released additional information beyond what appears in charging documents and the reports citing them.
