Tigawok, the fast-casual mini-bowl chain that got its start in Los Angeles, is gearing up to open its first San Diego location at La Jolla Village Square. The coming outpost is set up to feed a steady stream of students, nearby office workers and local residents with stackable Chinese-inspired bowls and small plates, bringing the brand's stripped-down menu to the Torrey Pines and UC San Diego crowd for the first time.
The space and the scoop
According to WhatNow, Tigawok is moving into the former Voqozo space at 8657 Villa La Jolla Drive, Suite 103, tucked between Ike's Love and Sandwiches and The Kebab Shop. That report points to filings with the San Diego Department of Environmental Health and Quality and notes that the La Jolla restaurant is expected to be the company's sixth location overall. Neighbors can expect to see build-out work and permitting activity on the storefront ahead of an eventual soft opening.
Tigawok's mini-bowl formula
The Tigawok site currently lists operating locations in Sawtelle, Burbank and Irvine and spotlights a menu centered on small, stackable bowls such as orange peel chicken, kung pao chicken, mapo tofu and wagyu curry. As the company describes it, guests choose a base like rice or chow mein, then pair two or three mini entrée bowls to build a quick, mix-and-match meal.
Robot woks and fast, affordable eats
Coverage of the concept has zeroed in on Tigawok's automated wok stations as a signature feature that keeps the operation humming. Time Out Los Angeles dubbed the setup "robot chefs" and highlighted the budget-friendly pricing, with bowls in the 3 to 6 dollar range. That mix of speed, consistency and low cost is a big part of what has pushed the chain across Southern California.
When to expect it
There is still no official opening date on the books. Neither Tigawok nor the shopping center has gone public with a timeline, and WhatNow reports only that the team is actively preparing the La Jolla space. For now, the best clues will likely show up in county permit records and fresh signage as the soft launch window gets closer.
Why La Jolla makes sense
La Jolla Village Square already functions as a busy neighborhood hub near UC San Diego, with a mix of daily-needs retail and quick-service eateries that fits Tigawok's grab-and-go model. As Wikipedia notes, the center draws a blend of students and local residents, a built-in audience that should give the new mini-bowl spot a solid base for both lunch and dinner traffic.
